The Mannum Agricultural Show dinner and night of entertainment will be held from 6.30pm at the Showground Dining Room on Friday 22nd Feb.
Music will be provided by Phil King, a 60/40 Country Singer
featuring guitar sounds of the '60's. Organisers are hopeful that
this event will help raise much needed funds for the on-going
improvement of the Mannum Show and the facilities at the showground.
Tickets for the dinner at $20 per person (BYO drinks) are available
by phoning 8569 2385. Childrens tickets are also available. Group
or party bookings should be made early to avoid disappointment.

YOUNG RURAL AMBASSADOR AWARD
Conducted in conjunction with
AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES COUNCIL OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA
REGULATIONS AND ENTRY CRITERIA
This award is conducted by the Agricultural Societies Council
of South Australia who will be duly responsible for selecting
the State winner during the course of each Royal Adelaide Show.
All entrants who enter the award must provide an undertaking that
they will abide by the regulations and entry conditions as set
out and to abide by the decisions of the Agricultural Societies
Council of S.A. The regulations apply to all three tiers of this
award. The awards will be run by qualification through country
shows to association finals with a State Final being held at the
Royal Adelaide Show.
AIMS:
· To highlight the importance of youth in rural
South Australia and in particular the agricultural show movement.
· To identify and encourage enthusiastic, skillful, industrious
and unselfish young people.
· To give young people a forum to express their views through
education and experience and develop closer links with the agricultural
industries.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Apply for and complete the entry form.
ENTRANTS MUST:
· Provide information indicating their reasons for applying
for entry together with curriculum vitae, indicating work experience,
community participation and agricultural show involvement.
· Be residents of South Australia.
· Be aged between 16 and 19 yrs OR 20 and 30 years at the
time of their local show.
· Be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about rural life and
affairs, and agricultural shows.
· Be able to spend the required time at the local show,
Group Level finals and the State Final at the Royal Adelaide Show
2008
JUDGING CRITERIA: Entrants must wear smart casual
clothing.
Entrants to be judged in accordance with the following guidelines:
Community involvement 20 points
Country Show involvement: 10 points
General and Rural knowledge: 20 points
Personality 20 points
Ambition/Goals 10 points
Communication Skills 10 points
Style, Grooming and Deportment 10 points

RULES
1. Competitors to compete in one only of the following sections:
Junior Open Under 18 10.30 a.m.
Senior Male 18 and over 11.00 a.m.
Senior Female 18 and over 11.30 a.m.
Corporate Challenge Team of 3 12 noon
2. Each section will compete separately at the given time.
3. Tickets need to be purchased at $1.00 each. A ticket will entitle
the competitor to one throw.
4. Weights of fish may vary slightly within each section.
5. Fish, as supplied, to be throw into the 'fair' area from a
line within the cricket nets. A throw from on or in front of the
line will be called 'foul' and counted as a throw but not measured.
Fish hitting the nets will also be called 'foul'.
6. Previously thrown fish which are still whole, at the judge's
discretion, may be made available for further throws.
7. No throw is to be made until the 'all clear' is given by the
marshall for the event. The competitors name will then be called
and the carp must be thrown within 30 seconds of that call.
8. Gloves will be available for those wishing to use them and
the throw may be made with one or both hands.
9. Distances will be measured from the back of the landing point
to the back of the throwing line. Each fair throw will be measured
and recorded to determine the winners in each section.
10. In all matters, the judge's decision is final.
11. Prizes in each section will be awarded following the completion
of the event at approximately 12 noon. They will be allocated
as follows:
1st prize $25.00
2nd prize $15.00
3rd prize $ 5.00
12. Indemnity warning: Each competitor enters this competition
at their own risk. Each competitor acknowledges that in entering
this competition they accept full liability of any injury suffered
during their carp throwing attempt.

COUNTRY MUSIC

Enjoy Country Music at the Mannum Show from 11 a.m. performed
for you live by Kristal Collins. Kristal is destined to
become one of Australia's outstanding Country Music performers.
She won the SA Junior Entertainer of the Year in 2007 as well
as the SA Junior Champion of Champions July 2006/July 2007. Kristal
also compered much of the 2007 Country Music Camp Out at Blanchetown
in October. The second band, The Night Birds, will
perform Country and Rock.

SHEEP SHEARING COMPETITION CONDITIONS
1. The competition will be judged on the following points:-
(a) Style, handling and control.................. 5
(b) Second cuts and wool left on sheep........... 35
(c) Skin cuts.................................... 25
(d) Position of fleece............................ 3
(e) Workmanship................................. 17
(f) Speed......................................... 15
TOTAL.................. 100 pts
1. The judge's decision shall be final and no correspondence will
be entered into.
2. Two sheep will be allotted to each competitor.
3. No outside assistance will be allowed by any competitor. Any
breach in this regard will entail immediate disqualification.
4. Machines to be thrown out of gear after each sheep is shorn.
5. Sheep to be carried out and not 'legged' on to the board.
6. Universal combs only to be used; modified combs are strictly
prohibited.
7. Sheep will be graded as evenly as possible.
8. Time allowed - Novice Event: 41/2 minutes per sheep.
- Championship: 31/2 minutes per sheep.
Competitors will gain full points for speed but extra points will
not be awarded for fast shearing.
8a. The above times could be altered at the discretion of the
judges and stewards, depending on the type of sheep.
9. Each competitor to supply combs & cutters; handpieces will
be supplied by the committee if required.
10. Decisions as to the standard for entry into Novice Event to
be at the discretion of the Committee.
11. Only the first three placings in Novice Event are eligible
for Championship Event.
